How Do You Finish the Unstarted?

Having plans in life is one of the key secrets to success. No doubt, such has different meaning to different people. This self-help article presents some practical ways to finish the unstarted of your projects and assignments.

Finish the Unstarted -

Many times, our minds are full of countless ideas. In other words, each one of us is ambitious. But the bad news is; all those bright ideas die off without being made use of. They do not receive the attention they need to see light. Most of us fail to invest those dreams that may bring the change we want to see in our communities. As a result, these ideas remain dreams, and as the saying goes, “Most dreams never come true.”

So how do we turn the dreams that keep spinning in our minds into practical achievement?

Outline your plan!

First, after having a bright idea, in order to finish what you want you to achieve, it’s important to plan to achieve it, or else, you risk to unconsciously planning to achieve nothing.

To do that, have a pen and paper, write down what the desired outcome of the idea should be. Along the way, you may find it necessary to apply some changes. If that happens, it means your creativity and critical thoughts are evolving. It means you are getting more inspirations towards achieving your dream.

What next?!

Start! Yes, you must start. If you are hungry, you won’t get full until you’ve started eating. If you are tired, you won’t get any better, until you’ve started to have a rest. If you want to read a book from cover to cover, you can’t reach the end cover until you’ve started with the starting cover.

It’s so simple, but simpler things are the trickiest and the most challenging, sometimes.

You have the dream to acquire a certain knowledge or skill in a certain field. What have you done about it? Are you living the anxiety, due to the ideas packed in your head? You have to execute those ideas. In order to do that, outline your plan and start!

Stay focused and determined

Now that you have your plan outlined, and you’ve, hence, started the journey, towards achieving your goal, you need to stay focused. Constantly motivate yourself, and be determined. No extrinsic motivation can make you successful as much intrinstic motivation can.

If you fail to motivate yourself, the world’s best motivator won’t be able to change you. They can only ‘preach’ and talk at you. At the end of the day, you are the only one who has full control over your heart and brain (after God, of course). So, once you’ve started, stay focused, and be determined. Motivate yourself by yourself.

There you go!

Was that difficult? No, it wasn’t… But it was. Making a decisive decision is not an easy task, but taking the risk and doing it, after thorough thinking from various possible perspectives, earn you the sense of responsibility. With that, one can gradually grow the ability of self-reflection for better future achievements, by God willing.

The hill you see to be “very high” is really high and shall remain high, so long as you remain standing at its lowest end. The moment you start climbing it, the distance to the top shrinks and narrows. Most likely, you will say to yourself, “I didn’t know it was that easy”, but again, you’ll never know something is that easy; until you’ve started, and have achieved it.

This is how you finish

So, how do you finish? This is how you finish. You wouldn’t have reached to read these lines if you didn’t start to read from the beginning. So, starting is very important in order to finish. And it’s only after you have finished, that you will start to appreciate and enjoy the “excitement of the heroes” inside you. This excitement is non-transferable; it’s achieved independently.

Remember the 3 Simple Rules (I learnt it from Facebook):

  1. If you do not go after what you want, you’ll never have it,
  2. If you do not ask, the answer will always be no;
  3. If you do not step forward, you’ll always be in the same place.

This is how to finish and achieve any righteous and noble objective. The Chinese philosopher, Lao-Tzu said, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”.

Along the way, if you are faced with obstacles, remember the golden advice of the Holy Prophet, Muhammad, may God’s Peace and Blessings be upon him always. He said:

“Strive for that, which will benefit you, and seek God’s help, and do not give up!”
